NHS RightCare COPD Pathway

In January 2018, NHS England published guidance for local health economies on the RightCare COPD Pathway, which clearly set out the national case for change, and resources to enable change, reduce variation and improve population health for COPD patients.

NHS England has produced their first document, which acts as an enabler for local health economies to focus on key areas, including early detection, optimising COPD treatment (including consideration of frailty and multi-morbidity), hospital readmissions and unexpected mortality. For each of these areas, NHS England provides guidance and practical examples of successful implementation from around the country.  The document also includes the PCRS-UK ‘COPD Tiers of Care’ work, which provides a template for local health economies when considering service redesign.
